Rossi lets loose at Pesaro festival

A host of MotoGP riders beat the wind and the rain to take part in the first ever ‘Bikes & Legends' weekend in Pesaro, Italy, this weekend. With the event organised by his father Graziano, the undoubted star of the event was World Champion Valentino Rossi, who drove in a rally race and rode a Yamaha YZ450 in the supermoto event.

Although the eagerly anticipated supermoto challenge was almost cancelled due to the weather on Sunday, Rossi was joined on track by Kevin Schwantz, Casey Stoner, Peter Ottl and Mauro Sanchini for a five-minute sprint won by Schwantz, the original ‘King of Slide', after Rossi crashed out of the lead.

"I enjoyed that like a madman!" commented Rossi afterwards. "The track was really slippery but you could ride and it was only fair that the fans who came here despite the weather could see a supermoto race.

"On Saturday there were 15,000 people here so it was a real shame about the weather today because there could have been about 25,000."

Rossi was joined on the rally circuit by MotoGP rivals Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri, who drove a Mitsubishi. "I had never tried a rally car before and I really enjoyed it," commented Melandri. "The track was slow but enjoyable and it was an exciting experience for me."
