Rubén Xaus: "Nothing is signed yet"

Rubén Xaus has responded to recent media hype by confirming that he has not yet signed a deal to ride as team-mate to Toni Elías at Yamaha. The 2004 Rookie of the Year has been strongly linked with the move in the Spanish press but today he insisted the his MotoGP future was still in the balance.

"I still don't have anything signed and I don't know what I will be doing next season," insisted the 27 year old. "We have been talking for some time with Yamaha and I can confirm that it is factory we are closest to signing with, but there is nothing finalised yet and I'd prefer not to speak about it until there is something on paper.

"It is a matter for my agent to sort out and I have preferred to stay out of the negotiations. There will be plenty of time to talk once a deal is signed."

After such a successful season, Xaus admitted that he wasn't expecting to wait so long for a deal for 2005. "In this world certain things count other than results – there are economic factors to take into account such as sponsors, which has made things more difficult for me and I'm surprised.

"I feel proud with what I achieved this season but I suppose that I am still not completely established here. I hope to be seen that way next season."
