D'Antín "very close" to Nieto deal

Luis D'Antin says he is confident of completing a deal to sign Fonsi Nieto for the MotoGP World Championship in 2005. Nieto began his career with D'Antín on a 250cc Yamaha six years ago and confirmed after the final race of 2004 at Valencia that he would be leaving the category.

With Neil Hodgson having left the team to join the factory Ducati effort in the AMA Superbike Championship and Ruben Xaus currently at an advanced stage of negotiations with Yamaha, D'Antin is on the lookout for two riders and the scene is perfectly set for Nieto to step up to the premier class.

"We're very close to a deal with Fonsi," commented D'Antin. "But at the moment I can't confirm anything more than that because there is no contract signed yet."

D'Antin also hinted that Xaus was not a consideration for the team for next season and revealed that he was chasing a second rider also from the 250cc class. "We are also negotiating with Roberto Rolfo and Randy De Puniet for the other vacancy in the team," he added.

"I think that in a few days we will be able to confirm the names of our riders for the upcoming season."
