Hopkins recovering from operation

John Hopkins is recuperating at a hotel in San Francisco, California, after undergoing surgery to remove a rod from his femur and two pins from his ankles. The Team Suzuki rider is due to return home to San Diego on Friday and is already targeting a swift recovery.

"I'm on painkillers, but I'm walking on crutches," said Hopkins. "But I'm looking forward to getting back into training for next season."

The 21 year old, who recently signed an extension to his MotoGP deal with Suzuki, was operated on by Dr. Arthur Ting to put right an injury incurred in a car crash when he was 14 years old - and also two broken ankles sustained in a supercross accident before the start of the 2004 season.

In an operation that lasted several hours, Hopkins' left hip was dislocated and the rod removed, along with pins from his ankles.
