Derbi to start winter tests at Almeria

The Caja Madrid Derbi Racing Team have announced the dates of their first winter tests as they prepare for the 2005 season. The Spanish factory outfit will be in Almería on the 24th and 25th November before following up with two further days at Valencia on the 3rd and 4th December.

The test represents Pablo Nieto's first ride on the 125cc machine, three years after leaving Derbi for Aprilia. "I'm going back to Derbi full of motivation and looking forward to achieving top results," commented Nieto.

"This week I was at the development headquarters and I sat on the bike used by Lorenzo this season and began to work with the engineers. I'm really looking forward to riding the bike and finding out what it feels like. Having had a close look at it I'm sure it's completely different to the bike I rode from 1999 to 2001.

"Jorge was very fast this season and with some of the improvements over the winter I think we can set our goals very high."

"The 2004 season brought us a lot of enjoyment but we are already looking to improve on that," added Derbi Racing Development General Manager Giampiero Sacchi. "The whole team, headed by Gigi Dall'Igna and Jan Thiel, are very highly motivated and looking forward to a new challenge."
