Corsi wins as Espargaró clinches Spanish title

Aleix Espargaró won the 125cc Spanish Championship at Jerez on Sunday in a race won by Aprilia debutante Simone Corsi. The Italian youngster took the lead on the second lap and stretched out an insurmountable advantage over Julián Miralles, who was set to secure the title in second place.

However, the race took a dramatic twist three laps from the end when Miralles touched with David Bonache and crashed, handing the championship to Espargaró in fourth place. German youngster Sascha Hommel took second place and was joined on the podium by Austrian Michael Ranseder, who clinched third on the KTM.

Colombian rider Martín Cárdenas picked up the Spanish Supersport title with victory in a race which was initially won by Yoann Tiberio, who was later disqualified for technical irregularities with his bike. Meanwhile, Santiago Barragán took victory in the final round of the Movistar Junior Cup after series winner Ion Garrido crashed out on the second lap.

Former 500cc Grand Prix rider Jose Luis Cardoso, who will ride in the World Superbike series next season, took victory in the Formula Extreme race.
