Dovizioso makes quarter-litre debut with Honda

Andrea Dovizioso completed his first laps aboard the Honda RSW he will use to contest the 250cc World Championship in 2005 at a busy test at Jerez on Wednesday. As well as a host of MotoGP stars, Dovizioso was joined on track by quarter-litre factory colleagues Hector Barberá and Jorge Lorenzo, as well as Aprilia rivals Alex de Angelis, Roberto Locatelli and Casey Stoner. Barberá and Stoner crashed but both escaped unhurt.

"When I went out onto the track I felt like a young child opening a present," smiled Dovizioso after the test. "I was so looking forward to riding the 250 and I have to say that it's a really good bike. It has just enough power and the most significant difference is the weight.

"You can make a 125 go where you want it to on the track because it is easier to handle but the 250 is more difficult to control. In any case it goes really well and now it's a case of gathering as many kilometres and as much experience as possible. The bike is running fine and there isn't one particular area that needs working on more than another.

"The fact that I am staying with the same team is also very important because they feel like a family to me and that will help us to progress quickly in every aspect. I still haven't had chance to celebrate the 125cc title with my friends because I've been very busy but hopefully I'll get chance in December."
