Luca Montiron explains new project

Makoto Tamada's future in the MotoGP World Championship became clear earlier this week, with the announcement of a new one-rider team in the colours of Konica Minolta and Honda. The Japanese rider will also be using Michelin tyres for the first time as he represents Jir (Japan Italy Racing). Luca Montiron, Managing Director of the team, explained more about their objectives for their first season.

"We have started this project with a prestigious sponsor, which is Konica Minolta," explained Montiron. "We are expecting to carry out a long term project and we have a competitive rider, who demonstrated his worth this season. Makoto took two victories as well as three pole positions and several podiums.

"We believe we have all the necessary ingredients to finish in a good position next season. The change of tyres (from Bridgestone to Michelin) is definitely very important because we wanted our rider to be competitive at each of the seventeen rounds of the MotoGP World Championship in 2005.

"The team have the support of Konica Minolta, which is very important for us and for the championship because it is a new sponsor, but the team is basically the same, with the addition of two Japanese technicians who will reinforce the project.

"The relationship with Honda gets stonger and stronger. This project has been made possible thanks to the help of Honda, who have made material available to us which will allow us to play major role in the championship. I think that all the riders go out with that objective and I am sure that we have things in place to achieve it."
