Yamada enjoying Ducati honeymoon

Bridgestone's motorcycle racing director Hiroshi Yamada enjoyed a honeymoon start to his company's relationship with Ducati Marlboro in their first test together at Jerez last week. Sharing a track with established Michelin-shod Honda riders, Carlos Checa and Loris Capirossi set the fastest times of the test with Checa almost two seconds inside Valentino Rossi's lap record.

"We were not sure if our tyre was suitable for the Ducati but after the first day both riders were happy with our tyre and the lap time was also very good," reflected Yamada. "They were first and second and we are quite happy at the moment. Of course, we need to do a lot of things with them but we are confident.

"Ducati is one of the good factory teams, of course, so our target for MotoGP is to be the champion, of course. Then we already have Kawasaki and Suzuki this year but we need to have more good teams. That's why we have decided to work together with Ducati.

"Before testing with Ducati we were a little bit concerned about the character of their machine because Ducati has so much power and we thought, maybe, a different character of the bike but at the moment we think not so big difference."
