Lorenzo quickest at final day of Honda test

250cc World Championship rookies Jorge Lorenzo, Hector Barberá and Andrea Dovizioso continued their swift adaptation to the quarter-litre class with a positive two-day test at Valencia on Monday and Tuesday and all three riders setting quick times.

The Fortuna Honda team of Spanish teenagers Lorenzo and Barberá had so far refused to release their lap times in previous tests but today revealed that Lorenzo was the fastest of the two, lapping barely a tenth of a second outside Shinya Nakano's lap record at the Cheste circuit and well inside Dani Pedrosa's fastest lap from the Grand Prix there one month ago. Both riders crashed but were unhurt, with Dovizioso second fastest behind Lorenzo at the end of the day.

"It was interesting to complete some laps in the wet yesterday because we hadn't had chance to do that yet," reflected Lorenzo. "First of all I have to say that the bike isn't too difficult to ride in those conditions although we will have to work hard to get the most out of it.

"Generally, I'm happy with the kilometres I've been able to rack up here and now I'm concentrating on forgetting about the habits of riding a 125 so that I can get all the potential out of the 250 Honda.

"I ran off track today and that made me lose my rhythm a little bit but I could definitely tell the improvement we have made since the first time we rode here with this bike. I'm not finding it that difficult to go fast and, although I realise there is a long way still to go this preseason, I'm optimistic about my first season in the category.

"I think I have to improve on the brakes and really get to understand the bike, although with the laps I've been able to do so far I have learnt a lot about how to ride a 250."

Unofficial lap times provided by the teams:

Jorge Lorenzo (Honda): 1'36'4
Andrea Dovizioso (Honda): 1'36'9
Hector Barberá (Honda): 1'37'1
