Aoki happy to be back at Suzuki

Four years after parting company to join a testing programme for Bridgestone tyres with Erv Kanemoto and Honda, Nobuatsu Aoki returned to Suzuki in a private test at Sepang last week. After two seasons competing in MotoGP with Proton Team KR, the veteran expressed his satisfaction at returning to the Japanese factory team and, of course, Bridgestone rubber after a season with Dunlop.

"For sure, it's like coming back home for me," said Aoki, who finished third in the 500cc World Championship for Suzuki in 1997, when he scored two second places – his best ever result.

"They've welcomed me and I'm sure I feel very comfortable. I appreciate the opportunity they've given me to be a test rider. They want me to race maybe two wildcards at least – maybe more, I don't know. I had other options but I thought this is the best option so that's why I picked it up.

On the Bridgestone tyres, which enjoyed their first pole position and race victory in 2004, Aoki added: "They improved a lot this year so I was like… wow! You know, like this. But also they need to improve a little bit more.

"Of course, as you see, at some tracks they're very good and some tracks still not, so we have to pick it up. All the circuits have to be the same performance – the same top performance!"
