Marco Melandri admitted he was riding with a smile on his face after a positive start to life with Team Telefonica Movistar Honda. The former 250cc World Champion enjoyed a roller-coaster two-year spell with Yamaha before signing for Fausto Gresini's outfit in November and expressed his delight at the end of his most recent test at Valencia last week.

"I'm very happy, the feeling with my Honda is getting much better," said Melandri. "At Jerez I had a few traction problems, but here Michelin have brought some tyres that I used a few months ago and the sensations have improved a lot.

"The bike is good for me and the rhythm is always getting better. I was far away from Sete in Jerez, but I'm closer here so I'm happy. The team is great for me and I can smile again - I'm really starting to enjoy myself on the bike.

"Here we've been able to refine the setting of the bike a little bit for me, we've found the right position for the foot-pegs and the fuel tank so I feel really comfortable on the bike. I still have to work to find a feeling on new tyres because I'm still not too fast but in any case my objective now is to get ready to race.

"I'm always lapping with the fuel tank full and doing spells of seven or eight laps to get a good feeling with the bike. So I'm happy… the important thing at the moment is not the lap times, in fact I turned off the display on the bike so that I couldn't see the lap times! Before the (Official) test at Barcelona I'd like to try out a few qualifying tyres to get my team prepared for it."
