Melandri beats Bostrom in supermoto race at Bologna

Marco Melandri showed that he hasn't lost his competitive edge over the winter period with victory in a supermoto race known as the ‘International Superbikers' event at the Bologna Motorshow on Wednesday.

Melandri was racing against fellow Grand Prix stars Troy Bayliss, Alex de Angelis, Randy De Puniet, who won the second race, Mattia Pasini and Julián Simón, as well as AMA Superbike star Ben Bostrom, recently crowned supermoto champion at the X-Games in California.

"I was a bit surprised with how well I did because I knew I was quick, but Ben Bostrom and Troy Bayliss are both top riders and they were probably the favourites at the start," said Melandri.

"I came to have fun but once you're on the bike the racer's instinct takes over. It was a great race, twenty tight laps, and I'm sure it was a great spectacle for the fans."
