Hommel to line-up with Pirro in the Malaguti team

Malaguti have confirmed the signature of young German rider Sascha Hommel to accompany Michele Pirro in next year's 125cc World Championship. Hommel, one of the hotshots of the current 125c German series, has inked a contract for two years with the Italian firm, with the option for a third term.

The teenager will be 15 years old - the youngest age allowed for Grand Prix competition – in February, in time to participate in pre-season tests with his new squad.

After some quiet results during last season, Malaguti have decided to field two riders with potential for 2005. Last month the team announced the capture of 2004 125cc European Champion 18 year old Michele Pirro. The Italian will be spearheading the effort in developing the new bike and took part in the recent test conducted at the Misano-Adriático. For his part, Hommel showed his mettle at the final round of the Spanish Championship at Jerez towards the end of November where he was able to climb the podium in second position behind GP rider Simone Corsi.

The first time Hommel will come into contact with his new team and saddle will be on the 8th and 9th of January at the Almería circuit in Spain.

In 2004 Malaguti participated in the 125cc series with Gabor Talmacsi and Manuel Manna. The Hungarian finished seventeenth in the final standings and then signed with KTM at the end of the year, while his Italian team-mate was not able to post any notable results.
