Carlos Checa pays homage to brother David

Carlos Checa was back in his home village of Sant Fruitós de Bages (Barcelona) this week at a party held for his younger brother David, who claimed the World Endurance crown this season.

In a special ceremony at the local town hall David was recognised as a ‘son' of the town and his older brother was a proud onlooker.

"Obviously I am very proud of what David has done because he has become the best in the world at his discipline and this is very important," said Checa.

"David and I were, and still are, very close and this title is proof of his capabilities as a rider. Also, to celebrate here in our hometown and before our friends, is excellent."

The Ducati rider, who presented his brother with the ‘Trophy of Champions', is currently relaxing after his recent tests at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia.

"At the moment I am just taking things easy, although I haven't forgotten about my physical preparation. I want to have a good time with my family and then head back to London to start everything in earnest for the newseason. I am really looking forward to getting back on the Desmosedici and continuing the tests we started in November."

Meanwhile, David was thrilled to see his brother at the ceremony. "Of all the parties and celebrations I have had since taking the title of World Endurance Champion, this has been the most special and it was more emotional because it was given by my people," he explained.

"I was looking forward to celebrating this title and giving back some appreciation for all the support I have received ever since I started to ride a bike.

"It was great to have my brother Carlos together with me here because he helped a lot when I was starting out and was always a fantastic example of the ‘older brother'. I owe him a lot and I will keep working hard to make him proud of me."
