Honours continue for Porto in Argentina

Sebastián Porto continues to receive the plaudits in his home country for his achievements in the 250cc World Championship this year. The Repsol Aprilia rider has been chosen as the ‘Latino-American Motorcyclist of the Year 2004' by a panel of 33 expert judges specializing in motorsport.

Porto scored 132 points to hold off the challenge of 450cc Rally Raid World Champion Carlo de Gavardo, from Chile, and Colombian Martín Cárdenas, winner of the Spanish Supersport series and future rival to Porto in the 250cc World Championship next season. Brazilian MotoGP star Alex Barros came fifth in the poll.

Porto, who will again ride a factory Aprilia for the Repsol Aspar Team in 2005, also appeared on the front cover of the magazine ‘Gente' and was nominated to a list of the most important sportsmen in Argentina by the newspaper ‘Clarín', alongside several international football players and the Olympic basketball team.
