Hayden ruled out at Estoril

Nicky Hayden will miss the Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal after confirmation from his Repsol Honda team that they do not want the American youngster to risk further injury to his broken collarbone and potentially ruin the rest of his season. Hayden has been ordered to return home to the USA to make a full recovery ahead of the next round at Motegi, the first of four races in five intense weekends.

"Of course I'm really disappointed but there's nothing I can do," said Hayden, who had a plate and seven screws fitted to the bone after a supermoto crash in Italy last weekend. "I've been looked after really well but I'm not 100% fit. I would have liked to have given it a go to see how it felt but that's how a racer thinks.

"The team view is that it is better to be as fit as possible for Motegi and for the rest of the season – I respect that and I guess they are probably right. It doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see though!"
