Structure in place for floating grandstand at Assen

Work on the new 'floating' Finish grandstand at the Geert Timmer curve of the TT Circuit Assen continues apace, with the latest stage of construction completed last week.

The revolutionary new grandstand is being built in response to the advice of the MotoGP Safety Commission, which includes riders Valentino Rossi, Sete Gibernau, Kenny Roberts and Nobuatsu Aoki, and will allow the corner's gravel trap to be extended underneath the ‘floating' lower section of the stand, eliminating the need to discard the entire grandstand, which offers panoramic views of the exciting final chicane and straight.

Pile-driving and digging work was carried out over the last few months and a 41-metre long steel structure has now been placed on top of two concrete supports, which raise the stand four metres off the ground and allow the gravel trap extension underneath.

The concrete grandstand will be completed over the next few months and will provide seating for over 6,700 racing fans at this summer's 75th jubilee Dutch TT.
