Checa visits Ducati headquarters

Carlos Checa celebrated the New Year with a first-ever official visit to Ducati factory in Bologna, Italy. After positive tests last November in Spain and first contact with the new Ducati Marlboro Team and his new Desmosedici machine, Checa was at the Borgo Panigale headquarters to personally get to know the Ducati Corse engineers and technicians.

Checa revealed that he had taken time out of a strict training programme at his home in England to make the short trip to Italy as he prepares to leave for Malaysia in just over a week's time for three days of tests at the Sepang International Circuit.

"I'm already back into my preseason preparations after the Christmas holidays," said Checa, who was welcomed to Ducati Corse by company CEO Claudio Domenicali, Ducati Marlboro Team Director Livio Suppo and Technical Director Corrado Cecchinelli.

"At the moment I'm following a physical training programme in London before the first test at Sepang on the 22nd of this month. I'm concentrating mainly on gym work and jogging before getting back on the Desmosedici for the first time in 2005.

"Physical preparation is extremely important when it comes to riding a MotoGP bike and I don't want to leave anything to chance because I'm feeling really positive about the new season and I want to work hard now to make sure that I arrive at the first Grand Prix of the season in the best possible shape.

"Before the first shakedown in Malaysia I'll be joining up with the other Marlboro riders and car drivers for a few days of fun at the Madonna di Campiglio ski station. It will be a good opportunity to get back into some sort of activity related with racing and I suppose you could say it will be my first time back in Marlboro colours!"
