Tamada wins award in Japan

Makoto Tamada's growing success in the MotoGP World Championship has been recognised by officials in his hometown of Matsuyama. The Japanese rider was last week given the Kagayaki Matsuyama award, presented to professionals who have excelled them in sport and culture, by the mayor of the town.

Tamada finished in sixth place in the 2004 MotoGP World Championship standings after taking two victories (Rio and Motegi), one second place and three pole positions.

This season he will again ride a Honda RC211V but has switched to Michelin tyres in a new team backed by Konica Minolta Holdings Inc.
