Lorenzo gives early warning to Pedrosa at Jerez

Honda's squadron of factory 250cc riders continued their preseason preparations at Jerez on Saturday, with World Champion Dani Pedrosa and team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama joined by rookies Jorge Lorenzo, Hector Barberá, Andea Dovizioso and Yuki Takahashi.

Whilst Pedrosa stepped up his pace to lap within three tenths of a second of his pole time from the Grand Prix last April, Lorenzo was not far behind in just his fourth outing on the quarter-litre machine.

Pedrosa, who continues to work with the 2004 version machine as he awaits new material, worked through lunch to rack up 52 laps and a best time of 1'43.980. Lorenzo, meanwhile, sent out an early warning shot to his fellow Spaniard as he completed 72 laps and closed to within less than a tenth of the fastest time of the day.

The test continues on Sunday.

1. Daniel Pedrosa (Honda 250) 1'43.980 (52 laps)
2. Jorge Lorenzo (Honda 250) 1'44.066 (72)
3. Hiroshi Aoyama (Honda 250) 1'44.702 (46)
4. Andrea Dovizioso (Honda 250) 1'45.145 (58)
5. Héctor Barberá (Honda 250) 1'45.548 (84)
6. Yuki Takahashi (Honda 250) 1'47.010 (73)
7. Thomas Lüthi (Honda 125) 1'49.380 (67)
