Aprilia riders take over at Jerez

Sebastián Porto picked up the gauntlet laid down by Dani Pedrosa as Aprilia's factory squadron took over from HRC at the first 250cc tests of the preseason at Jerez.

With early fog delaying the start of the session until lunchtime, Porto was quickly into his stride in the afternoon although he was unable to get close to Pedrosa's lap time of 1'42.9, set in warm and sunny conditions on Sunday.

The Argentinean was challenged for top spot by Casey Stoner, who this season returns to the Italian factory squad under the tutelage of Lucio Cecchniello after a year with KTM, and his new Repsol Aspar team-mate Randy De Puniet. Roberto Locatelli, partner to Stoner at the Safilo Carrera team, escaped unhurt from a crash today, as did MS Aprilia rider Alex de Angelis.

Elsewhere, Colombian rookie Martín Cárdenas, who won the Spanish Supersport title last season, made his debut alongside Chaz Davies at Aprilia Germany, whilst Simone Corsi, Mirko Giansanti and Stefano Perugini made the step up from the 125cc class.

Unofficial lap times:

Sebastian Porto 1.44'456 (46 laps)
Casey Stoner 1.44'866 (20)
Randy de Puniet 1.45'208 (64)
Alex de Angelis 1.45'254 (55)
Roberto Locatelli 1.45'588 (21)
Mirko Giansanti 1.45'702 (35)
Chaz Davies 1.46'308 (42)
Stefano Perugini 1.47'563 (30)
Simone Corsi 1.48'211 (50)
Martin Cárdenas 1.49'905 (56)
