Stoner sets the pace on second day at Jerez

Casey Stoner made light of cool conditions at the Jerez Circuit in Spain on Tuesday to lap almost a second faster than Sebastian Porto with a time which would have put him in second place on the grid for the Gran Premio Marlboro de España last April.

Whilst the low track temperatures saw the likes of Randy de Puniet, Alex de Angelis (twice) and Chaz Davies all crash, Stoner clocked a stunning time of 1'43.714 in just his second test on the quarter-litre machine since returning to the category after two years in 125cc.

Sebastián Porto, who is already testing the 2005 chassis along with new team-mate De Puniet, was second fastest with a time of 1'44.559.
