Hayden joy at 'silky smooth' test

Nicky Hayden said that his testing programme for the first session of the new season had gone according to plan in Malaysia this week, with the Repsol Honda rider battling his way through a mountain of tyre and suspension evaluation.

Hayden has a new-look team for this season, including Chief Engineer Pete Benson and Technical Director Erv Kanemoto, and says he is pleased with the way things are developing.

"The test has been pretty silky smooth really after having been off the bike for a while," said Hayden. "Sure, we've still got a lot of work to do but it's great the team is working so well.

"The mechanics, HRC, the Michelin and the Showa boys; they sure ain't scared of doing some work which is what we have to do as we know what we're up against.

"We put a lot of laps in – probably too many really but we had lots of things to look at – lots of new tyres from Michelin and some real good ones as well. I'd say its been a really valuable start to the year.

"The season seems like a long way away but it will be here fast and we've got to be ready. My team are heading for Japan now to build the new bikes and I'm going home to get ready for the next test in Malaysia in a couple of weeks."
