Pasini ready to flourish with 3C Racing

The 125cc World Championship's Rookie of the Year in 2004, Mattia Pasini, began his preparations for a title challenge with three days of testing at the Jerez circuit last week.

It was the Italian youngster's second session with the 3C Racing team after switching from Lucio Cecchinello's LCR squad and the relationship is already showing promising signs, with Pasini setting the fastest lap of the test with a time of 1'48.764, half a second quicker than nearest challenger Pablo Nieto on the Derbi.

"The tests went really well," reflected Pasini. "The bike is really fast compared to the one I rode last year. Also, the chassis set-up allows me to take the corners much quicker and that's an obvious advantage. The team has done a really good job and I knocked a second off my best time at this circuit.

"For two days the weather wasn't too good but overall I was satisfied with the results of the test and they gave me a lot of confidence to look ahead to the new season. I feel really happy with the team, the atmosphere is really relaxed and I think we will work well together."

Pasini's new teammate Manuel Hernández was riding at Jerez for the first time since injuring himself there in a crash which ruled him out of the chase for the 125cc Spanish Championship title in 2004. However, the youngster is nearing full fitness again and clocked the fifth quickest time of the session with a lap of 1'49.893, ahead of former World Champion Manuel Poggiali.

"The tests went ahead satisfactorily," he said. "At the start I was a bit worried, thinking about my crash here, but the team worked really hard with me and I improved my best time. The weather wasn't too good – it was windy on Tuesday and cold on Wednesday but I went home feeling happy with the fifth fastest time."
