Marathon wait for Battaini

Franco Battaini says that he is not expecting to test the WCM-Blata V6 prototype until at least the MotoGP Official Test at Barcelona in March. Despite initial hopes of a shakedown test in February, the Italian says that production at the Czech factory is behind schedule and Team Manager Peter Clifford has informed him to be ready for his debut session in the premier-class next month.

"Peter told me that we'll have to wait until March because the new bike isn't ready yet," he explained. "We'll definitely be on track with the other riders at the Official Test, although it's still not certain that it will be with the new bike.

"It's a situation which I understand and accept. I'm just training as hard as always and I'm ready to get started as soon as possible. We will have a bit of a disadvantage compared to the other teams who started their testing programmes in January but my objective is the same – to adapt to a new category and try to develop the bike.

Battaini, regarded by many as the fittest man in the paddock, shouldn't have any problem staying in shape as he prepares to take part in the Piacenza marathon on the 6th March. As well as keeping his fitness, it seems he has also kept his sense of humour despite the progress being made by his rivals at this crucial stage of the preseason.

"I read that Colin Edwards is tired of Sepang… well that's a lot better than being tired of not doing anything!" he smiled.
