Xaus glad to be back

Ruben Xaus returned to action on the first day of MotoGP tests at Phillip Island today. The Fortuna Yamaha rider missed the majority of the Sepang sessions in Malaysia last week through injury but went back to work in Australia and was pleased with his early progress.

"I was really looking forward to getting back on the bike," admitted Xaus. "We're testing different aspects which are giving us some positive results – we're making progress.

"I think the M1 has adapted quickly to the new circuit and I had a good feeling by the end of the day. We tried two different types of tyres and had good results. I'm really happy with the whole team and the job we are doing."

For Xaus' team-mate Toni Elías, today represented his first visit to Phillip Island on a MotoGP four-stroke and the rookie was keen not to get ahead of himself. "With this being a completely new circuit with the M1, I've taken things very carefully today," said the former 250cc star.

"It's a fast and narrow circuit, where a basic mistake can be paid for dearly, so I opted to just ride the bike and continue to get to know it bit by bit. The fact I need to adapt more to the M1 is even more apparent at this circuit. We've tested suspension and tyres over the course of the day and I'm making progress."
