Another bad day at the office for Melandri

Marco Melandri's adaptation to the Honda RC211V hit another setback on Friday afternoon when the Italian was forced to sit out the final two hours of the second day of tests at Phillip Island after a crash.

It was Melandri's second spill in two days and the former 250cc World Champion admits he will have to take things much more calmly on the final day in order to make up for lost time.

"Today wasn't a good day," reflected Melandri, who set an encouraging best time of 1'30.95 from 71 laps before the crash. "I'm annoyed because I was riding well and I made a mistake which cost me half of the session.

"This morning we made the modifications we wanted to the front forks; I noticed straight away that I was getting better and I was lapping consistently in low 1'31s.

"But in the afternoon we went back to the morning set-up just to confirm that the changes we had made were correct and it was a mistake because the bike was harder to ride and I carried on pushing until I crashed at Siberia corner.

"It's a shame because it meant I had to finish the day two hours earlier than planned. Tomorrow I want to take things a bit more carefully."
