Missed chance for De Puniet

Randy De Puniet's preseason testing plans took a blow on Tuesday, when freezing cold weather conditions at the Catalunya circuit denied him the opportunity to test Aprilia's new chassis.

The Frenchman completed a handful of laps on the first day but was unable to use the new bike due to a technical setback and was then denied by the weather on the second and final day.

"It's a shame because this is the second consecutive test where we've been hit by bad weather and our testing programme has been delayed as a result," commented De Puniet.

"There was a problem with the new bike so I had to use the old one. Now we haven't got another test planned until the middle of March so I'll have to wait until the official tests in Barcelona to really get to work on the 2005 Aprilia.

"I didn't even complete a single lap on Tuesday because of the cold – we had to make do with working on the clutch. It's not ideal because you're looking to get back into the flow of things after three months out and I need a period of adaptation with the new team.

"Even though preseason hasn't gone perfectly so far I feel confident. I'm proud to have the chance to work with Team Aspar, I think I can have a good season and improve on last year, although it may not get off to as strong a start."
