Japanese launch for Repsol Honda

The new-look Repsol Honda team was presented last week in Japan, at the Honda Corporation headquarters in Tokyo. The Japanese manufacturer revealed its 2005 racing program at a launch party attented by the factory teams entered in various disciplines, from the Trial World Championship to the Japanese GT series.

This year, the revamped Repsol Honda team – now led by technical guru Erv Kanemoto, lines up Nicky Hayden and Max Biaggi. The Italian was thrilled by what he described as ‘a big family reunion'.

"The new Repsol Honda Team was officially introduced to the world in Tokyo. That was a great event! With us there were all the Honda factory riders and teams: from those crazy bicycle guys who won the down hill world championship to the formula one pilots, to motocross world championship teams, US super cross guys, trial and so on," commented Biaggi.

"Let me say that I am proud and excited to be part of this great group. I've never hidden that I always wanted to have those three letters on my bike. What letters? HRC, of course."

Having completed the first leg of winter testing with sessions held in Malaysia and Australia, Biaggi eagerly awaits new parts for his V5. He will resume testing this week in Qatar, but he shouldn't get new material until the Official Test at the Catalunya circuit.

"Everybody is positive here. All of us are willing to do well. Now we are waiting for the new parts to come. Until today, our RC211Vs were basically not so different from the 2004 version," said Biaggi. "In Sepang and Philip Island we collected many important data. HRC Research and Development Department is already working on them. We are looking forward to seeing the first results at Spanish IRTA tests, by mid march."
