Mike di Meglio happy with his first test of the year

Last week in Jerez, Mike di Meglio was back on track for the first time since he sat out the last round of the 2004 Championship through injury. After two seasons with Aprilia, the young Frenchman switches to Honda machinery this year and he's hopeful about progressing in the 125 class.

"I was really eager about getting back on the track, as I couldn't ride for a while after being operated. The first day allowed me to work on a basic set-up and to find a good position on the bike," explained di Meglio. "I felt comfortable with the bike straight away, even if it's pretty different from the one I rode last year."

"The way you use the engine and the bike handling are very different and I have to get used to it and to adapt my riding style. I know I have to work in some areas and there's definitively room for improvements, so that's a good sign as I already managed good lap times."

During this first test session, di Meglio was helped by his new team-mate, Fabrizio Lai.
"I could work with Fabrizio, who is a very nice guy and was really helpful. On the third day, we even did a race simulation together, to see if I could keep up with him. It went pretty well, even by the end of the run – I'm usually quick when there is less grip because of tyre wear, as I find better lines when the bike can slide."

"I'm happy with this first test session, it was good to ride again and even if I had a few problems on the first day, our work was satisfying. This year, I think I can perform very well if I manage to understand the bike and get the best out of it."
