Sascha Hommel set for debut season with Malaguti

Having turned 15 just a week ago, Sascha Hommel will be the youngest ever German rider to compete in Grand Prix racing. The Malaguti Racing Team rookie took part in a media event this week-end at the Sachsenring and revealed his expectations for his debut season.

"I will try to get as close to the front as possible, but I know I have many things to learn," commented Hommel. "All the tracks will be new for me, I will have to get used to them, but also to the bike and the team. I also have to admit that my English isn't that good and I should work on that, but we will see what happens."

Hommel started to race at 10, on the German mini-bike scene, and spent three years in the discipline before moving up to 125cc racing in the IDM German Championship. Third overall in his second season, the rider from Reichenbach also made a strong impression at European and Spanish level and even took second at the CEV round held at Jerez.

This year, he will make his World Championship debut alongside Michele Pirro with the Malaguti Racing team, who will be testing next week at Catalunya for the Official Test.
