The 125 class set to kick-off the Official Test

The Official Test at Catalunya will start tomorrow for the 125 teams. The pre-season goes into full swing as all the teams of the class will gather for a day and half on the outskirts of Barcelona.

This season promise an open and fascinating battle as the Champion throne was left vacant with Andrea Dovizioso moving up to the 250 class alongside the other top 5 finishers of last year's Championship.

However, there will be a former World Champion in the class as Manuel Poggiali joined back Gilera, the manufacturer with which he secured his first title in 2001 before clinching the 250 crown in 2003 on his sensational debut season with Aprilia. After a disappointing campaign last year, he will try to regain his winning habits and appears as one of the favourite for the title.

One of the declared rival of the San Marino rider will be Spaniard Pablo Nieto, now spearheading the Derbi Racing effort, the team he rode for during his first three seasons in the World Championship.

More potential title contenders at Red Bull KTM, with a new three riders line-up: Mika Kallio is joined by Julian Simon and Gabor Talmacsi to confirm the Austrian firm steady progress in the class.

In the Aprilia camp, Jorge Martinez Aspar will have four riders on official machinery, including Hector Faubel, a 125 returnee after a lacklustre stint in the quarter litre class. The Noale factory has also high hopes in last year's best rookie, Mattia Pasini, who already set impressive lap times during winter testing. The Italian stable will also include the riders, Marco Simoncelli and Joan Olive.

Fabrizio Lai and Alvaro Bautista both switched to Honda during the winter, with the Racing World and Seedorf RC3 teams respectively and should emerge as the Japanese manufacturer top riders.
