The talented riders from Qatar attempt the first Losail National Cup race

Losail Internacional Circuit i Qatar held this weekend the opening round of the Losail National Cup. This project, which start one month ago with the pre-selection of young national up and coming promises, try to impulse this sport and the appearance of good riders in Qatar in order to achieve a relevant technical and competitive level which let them in the future take part in the World Chmpionship.

Leading the 16 participants who take part in this promotional cup was Mashel Mohammed Al-Naimi with a best lap time of 2:18:513. The race became very tight between Mashel and Yousef Majed Al-Malki, who was only a second behind Mashel's best lap time during the qualifying race. Unfortunately Yousef went off the track in the last lap and was unable to qualify to finish. Rashid Ebrahim Al-Mannai took the second podium position with Ahmad Ali-Hammadi filling out the third place.

The Losail National Cup will consists a three rounds in the calendar and the second race will be contested coming 2nd April. The winner in the competition will enjoy the chance to race the next Spanish Championship (CEV), an interesting springboard to drive his sports career.

For first time in the history, Qatar enjoyed a GP race when Losail circuit was built in 2004, and the Emirate will continue in the calendar, at least, till 2008.
