Second 125cc session opens for 250cc riders today

The Official Test at the Catalunya Circuit will unveil for first time this season a full compliment of teams and riders on the same track. Today the 125cc class begins their second practice outing from 10AM to 2PM. In the afternoon the 250cc riders wheel out for their first appearance at the Montmelo circuit. Once again it will be interesting to see who will be carrying an impressive early season pace into the opening GPs.

Yesterday, Thomas Luthi (Elit Grn Prix-Honda) obtained the best time lap in this first 125cc session. Besides the Swiss, only Italian Mattia Pasini (Totti Top Sport 3C-Aprilia) and the Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi (Red Bull KTM) were the only riders under 1'52.

Despite cloudy skies, the weather conditions were mostly constant during the day with some gentle temperatures. Overall the lap times didn't come close to last year's past official results at the Catalunya Official Test. In 2004 the Seedorf Racing Team challengers, Hector Barbera and Alvaro Bautista were fastest on both 125cc periods. Barbera stopped the chronometer on 1'51.947 in the first session, while his team-mate demoted his countryman on the second day, reducing the fastest lap time by one second.

Glancing at the maximum speed charts, only three riders breached the 228Km/h limit yesterday. One of them was Spaniard Pablo Nieto, who has moved to the Caja Madrid Derbi racing team and has placed himself as one of the main favourites for the title. Italian Marco Simoncelli, on the Aprilia at Team and Czech Lukas Pesek (Metis Racing Team), also reached a top speed of 228.5 Km/h.
