Ballero pays tribute to Meoni

Andrea Ballerini makes his 250 debut this week in Spain, at the Catalunya test – an opportunity to display his new colours but also a new helmet scheme paying tribute to the late Fabrizio Meoni.

The Italian legend was killed earlier this year in an accident on the stage eleven of the classic Dakar rally raid. It was then his 13th participation in the event he had previously won twice.

"Fabrizio was a great guy, as a talented rider and also as a man. His death was a huge loss for the whole motorcycling community. I knew him a little and I believe he deserved to be remembered," declared Ballerini.

"As we had the same helmet supplier, Premier, I asked them if I could use his colour scheme for this season and they were ok. So I now have this helmet, and I even have his logo with the red wild boar at the back."

Having switched to the quarter litre class after 68 Grands Prix in the minor class, "Ballero" relishes the new challenge, but knows he will need some time to get used to his new bike.
"This is my first time with the 250, so I must adjust to the bike after all these years I spent in the 125 class. I have a lot to learn, but we are taking it step by step, that's what testing is all about !"
