Kallio clinches ice title in-between tests

Forming the final step of the pre-season, March is usually a busy period for Grand Prix riders, but even more for Finn charger Mika Kallio. Last weekend, the Red Bull KTM rider flew back to his homeland to win the 125 Finnish Ice Road Racing Championship, just after the first official test at Catalunya.

After a day and half of testing in Spain, Kallio was back on track Saturday night for the third round of the Finnish series and took second in the 125 race to secure the title.

"This has been my hobby for years. It is also best way to train for MotoGP in cold Finland! We have 4 special KTM motocross bikes in my family for these winter races," said Mika Kallio.

"I also had a good chance to win the 250cc title, but I retired from one of the races because of engine problems, and I could only finish runner-up even if I won the last race in this class on Saturday"

Kallio resumes testing with Red Bull KTM today at Jerez, to complete the team pre-season programme in preparation for the forthcoming 125 World Championship.

"Even if this has been very busy timetable, now it is good feeling to fly back to Spain for Jerez tests. Our new bike feels much better for me if I compare it to last year's machine. I think we have a very competitive bike and a good rider line-up," commented Kallio, who will team up with Gabor Talmacsi and Julian Simon this year.
