Elias and Xaus wrap up their pre-season programme

Fortuna Yamaha riders Toni Elias and Ruben Xaus concluded three days test, wrapping up their preseason development programme for the 2005 MotoGP World Championship. The Spanish pair, who have spent the winter adapting to their new Yamaha YZR M1 machines, ended the day sixteenth and seventeenth fastest respectively as they tested alongside the whole of the MotoGP grid.

Toni Elías, who recently celebrated his 22nd birthday, continued with his development programme today and focused on the few remaining technical aspects that are preventing him from riding as comfortably as he would like. Elías suffered a small crash towards the end of the day but escaped unhurt and has done a good job over the course of the three days.

"Things didn't go as I would have wanted. I've got the odd minor technical problem that we still have to work out. In any case the three days have been very positive because we've been able to test the bike in wet and dry conditions and take some good conclusions into the first Grand Prix of the season. I have a lot of confidence in my team and I'm very happy with the work we have done. I'm sure we'll go far together!´, explained Elias.

His team-mate Ruben Xaus didn't have much luck and on the 9th lap of the day he also crashed out when he was still trying to warm his tyres. Despite the stunt, Xaus ended the test feeling satisfied with his two previous days' work here and is already looking forward the first Grand Prix of the season at Jerez in two weeks' time.

`I made a mistake during the first few laps of the session and ended up crashing, but my pace over the whole test has been good and I think that by working more on just a few small aspects we can improve the lap times significantly. Yesterday I also got the chance to ride the Yamaha in the wet and the data we gathered could be very valuable with the start of the season already upon us´.
