The MotoGP Academy on track at Catalunya

The six riders of the MotoGP Academy began a two-day test session on Wednesday at the Catalunya circuit. The youngsters had the opportunity to ride for the first time their new Honda RS125 they will use in this year Spanish 125 Championship.

"During this test, each rider has to get used to the bike and find a good position, but they also have to understand the way we work, that's the most important thing," explained Alex Batlle, one of the men in charge of the Academy alongside former rider Alberto Puig.

Most of the riders discovered the Catalunya circuit, but the main novelty was the HRC-kitted bike.
"This bike is really easy to ride compared to the 600cc I rode last year, it's lighter and the power is there," commented Ion Garrido, who won the Movistar Junior Cup in 2004.

The MotoGP Academy may have a friendly atmosphere, but once the riders get on the track, the first signs of rivalry are glimpsed.
"It's good to have friends here, but in the end, we are working for ourselves. It's not like the usual training, where we can't stop messing around and laughing. At the track, you have to focus on your own job so you can be as quick as possible," added the Spaniard.

After completing this first test today, the MotoGP Academy riders will resume training (cycling, supermotard and gym) until April, 5th.
