MotoGP maintains strength in depth

The strength in depth of the MotoGP class for 2005 has remained at the high level of recent years. Although several riders have left the series, these have been replaced with high quality riders, all of whom have achieved major successes in other classes of racing:

- Toni Elias (Fortuna Yamaha), who recently celebrated his 22nd birthday and has already won 9 Grand Prix races (7 x 250cc, 2 x 125cc).

- Roberto Rolfo (D'Antin Ducati), who is 25 years old and was the runner-up in the 250cc World Championship in 2003 and has taken a total of three GP victories.

- Franco Battaini (Blata WCM) made his Grand Prix debut back in 1996 and has competed in 122 GP races in the 250cc class.

- James Ellison (Blata WCM) rode for the Phase One endurance team on the way to winning the endurance World Championship in 2003.

The strength in depth is illustrated by the following facts about the entry list for the MotoGP class:

- In total there are seven riders who have won motorcycling World Titles.

- These 7 riders have won a total of 18 World Championship Titles between them.

- Sixteen riders have had race victories at World Championship level in Grand Prix, World Superbike or World Supersport.

- Between them they have scored 264 World Championship race wins.
