The 125 class in search of new leaders

As usual, the 125 will provide a thrilling opener this weekend at Jerez. With the top five riders from last year's 125cc World Championship having moved up to 250cc, the minor category promises to be another open affair and there is certainly no shortage on quality.

Returning former World Champion Manuel Poggiali and experienced campaigners Pablo Nieto and Gabor Talmacsi are obvious contenders for the crown, although promising youngsters such as Mattia Pasini, Thomas Luthi, Marco Simoncelli, Mika Kallio, Alvaro Bautista and Lukas Pesek have all established their title credentials during the entertaining preseason tests.

Due to the new age limit coming into force in the class, a number of long time competitors from the class have moved on and have been replaced by an exciting bunch of rookies. This year, the average age of the riders will be just 19 years and 21 weeks old.
