Konica Minolta Honda Team optimistic about Jerez

The Konica Minolta Honda team said yesterday it is satisfied with its pre-season results and is optimistic about the impending 2005 MotoGP World Championship at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit on Sunday.

The team will debut in front in front of around 200.000 spectators, all drawn by the excitement of opening of the 2005 MotoGP World Championship.

The team focused its winter testing on long distance testing, putting the bike through some 3,500km, allowing Japanese rider Makoto Tamada to adapt to the Honda RC211V with Michelin tyres.

Having completed numerous training laps and frequently clocking up best-time laps during tests, Tamada is hopeful that he can continue to produce the same kind of results during the 2005 MotoGP World Championship.

"I'm very satisfied about the results I have achieved during the pre-season and therefore I'm hopeful about the World Championship, which is about to begin. I would particularly like to thank the team for the attention they have given me, because it is also thanks to them that I have this magnificent opportunity to compete in the highest category of motorcycle racing – which only a few years ago was only a dream for me, but today is a reality!.

"I have liked the Jerez circuit since the first time I raced here two years ago. It's very technical and I find it a fun race to be involved in. It's show time!"

Last season Tamada didn't manage to finish at Jerez, although he did finish the season strongly, having exactly equalled Sete Gibernau´s score of 131 points over the last ten races of the year.

"Finally the season is about to begin", said Luca Montiron, Konica Minolta Honda Team Manager. After the hard work done in the past months to build up a team which could compete at the highest level, we are at an important stage to check our potential – since starting from this weekend we could begin to understand the true value of the Konica Minolta Honda Team and its rider."

"After having closely followed the results obtained during the winter testing, I'm sure that we have everything necessary to compete at the highest level. The sponsor, the team and the rider are full of enthusiasm and are ready to begin this new challenge.

"The team wants to return the trust given by Konica Minolta Holdings and Honda Racing Corporation since the beginning and wants to use this great opportunity in the best possible way."
