Pedrosa tops 250 provisional grid

Dani Pedrosa didn't let slip the opportunity to remind his opponents he will be the man to beat this year, clinching the provisional pole position in the first qualifying session of the Gran Premio Marlboro de España.

The early stages of the qualifying session saw Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa briefly at the top before being demoted by Sebastian Porto's effort.

The Argentinean was able to improve his fastest lap by the end of the session, but this didn't prove enough to secure as Pedrosa regained the provisional pole position with a blazing last minute push: the young Spaniard lapped in 1'43.025, posting a new lap record.

Casey Stoner eventually took third ahead of Randy de Puniet and Hiroshi Aoyama. Spanish rookie Hector Barbera ended sixth fastest, ahead of Alex de Angelis, who walked unscathed from a crash, just like 125 World Champion Andrea Dovizioso (10th fastest) and his teammate Yuki Takahashi (12th fastest).
