Gibernau still on top before qualifying session

Free practice resumed this morning with a sunny, but cold and windy day at Jerez, with a track temperature of around 14ºC. Sete Gibernau was once again the fastest ahead of Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden. The Spaniard set the best time of the session in 1'41.002, 0.202s slower than his fastest lap so far, posted on Friday morning.

Kenny Roberts was one of the few riders who managed to lap faster than yesterday, taking fifth behind Marco Melandri. Franco Battaini, Loris Capirossi and John Hopkins all suffered crashes, but will be able to take part in this afternoon's qualifying session.

In the 250 class, Sebastian Porto set the pace, but reigning World Champion and provisional pole-sitter Dani Pedrosa was a close second, while Randy de Puniet completed the top 3.

Marco Simoncelli, Mattia Pasini and Thomas Lüthi were once again the fastest in the minor class and should provide an exciting battle in this afternoon's final qualifying practice.
