Interesting facts and statistics ahead of the race

> Mika Kallio starts from pole for the first time in his GP career at the circuit where he scored his only podium finish of 2004. This is the first ever pole by a Finnish rider in a 125cc Grand Prix. If Kallio wins the race he will become the first rider from Finland to win a 125cc Grand Prix, and subsequently the first Finnish rider to win a GP in any class since Pentti Korhonen won the 350cc race at the Yugoslavian GP at Opatija in 1975.

> Kallio's pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Estoril circuit by a 125cc machine.

> This is the second pole for KTM in Grand Prix racing; the other was taken at the Dutch TT last year by Casey Stoner.

> Thomas Luthi's second place on the grid is his best ever qualifying result - improving on his third place last week at Jerez, which was his first ever front row start.

> Following his win at Jerez, if Marco Simoncelli takes the win at Estoril he will end a record sequence of forty races without a rider winning back to back races in the 125cc class. A record standing ever since Arnaud Vincent won at Donington and then Sachsenring in 2002.

> Hector Faubel has qualified on the front row of the grid for the first time in his GP career. His previous best was 7th on the grid at Jerez last week.

> Manuel Poggiali won the 125cc race at Estoril in 2001 on his way to winning the World Title.
