Barros returns to winning form after two years in the wait

Alex Barros did not only managed to clinch his first win of the season on Sunday at Estoril, the Camel Honda rider also put an end to a long run of no-win finishes.

The Brazilian's win at Estoril this Sunday was his first since Valencia in 2002. Following the Valencia win, Barros had strived over the last couple of years to get back into first place.

In 2003, the Sao Paulo rider accepted an offer to ride for the official Yamaha team. After a very poor year, with only one podium position in the whole championship, he changed again.

An offer from Honda – wanting the world to forget about World Champion Valentino Rossi – saw the Brazilian become part of the camel Honda team. Until Sunday, Barros had only managed a couple of third places, including Jerez, Portugal and Malaysia, and one second position at the GP in Germany.

Now appearing to have moved on from his bad streak, with Sunday's win and an impressive weekend of fastest times in practice, Barros is finally looking comfortable, and manager Sito Pons is positive about things to come.

"I'm delighted, for Alex and for the team. Alex deserved this result because he rode as both myself and all the team know he can. His motivation and determination are only equated by the faith we have in him. That's what you need to be able to give your best. We will be alongside him in the fifteen races that remain, and we will be aiming for more results like this one. Once more, congratulations to him and the Camel Honda team and all our supporters", said the team manager.
