Ellison scores first point for Blata

British rider James Ellison scored his first point of the season in Sunday's Grande Premio de Portugal by finishing in 15th place, but his win also put Czech manufacturer Blata on the scoreboard with one point in the Constructor's Championships.

Featuring on the scoreboard represents an important benchmark for the Czech manufacturer, which only made its MotoGP debut at the beginning of the 2005 season in Jerez.

Although Blata has now dented the scoreboard with the current machine, the team will look forward to riding a more powerful machine when the Czech manufacturer unveils the new V6.

However the V6 is still under development and Ellison and team-mate Franco Battaini will have some months to wait before racing the new machine. It is likely that Blata will unveil the V6 in August to coincide with the Czech Republic GP.

In the season-opener in Jerez, Ellison finished just out of the points in 16th place, and team-mate Battaini finished just behind him in 17th position. Battaini was the only rider in Estoril to go to the box when the white flag was shown due to changing weather conditions. However, after going to the box to change bike, the Italian did not return to the track.
