Historic presence of Chinese riders at Shanghai

The GP taobao.com of China will be a historic occasion for China's spectators as it will be the first time they have had the opportunity to watch a MotoGP event live from China. Adding to the excitement of seeing the race live, the Chinese fans will also witness the participation of a number of Chinese riders in the ground-breaking event.

The 125cc category will include three representatives of the People's Republic of China: Wai On Cheung, Wan Chow Ho and Rao Zhou You, all with Honda.

The 250cc class will see an additional five Chinese riders competing in the competition, including: Huang Shi Zao, Huang Zhi Yu, Wang Zhu, Li Zheng Peng and He Zi Xian. Together the eight Chinese riders will represent the largest-ever Chinese presence in MotoGP history.

Only three of the riders have prior experience in the World Championship. They are Yamaha riders: Huang Shi Zao, He Zi Xian and Wai on Cheung.

He Zi Xian took part as a wildcard in the 2003 GP of Malaysia in 250cc class but did not obtain classification, while Shi Zao managed eighteenth position in his debut.

Wai on Cheung also raced in 2003 – at the GP of Japan in 125cc class. He also finished without classification.
