Stoner beats Pedrosa to the pole

Casey Stoner blazed round the Shanghai track this afternoon in the final 250cc qualifying practice to clock the fastest lap of the session and secure pole position in tomorrow's Grand Prix of China.

The Australian Carrera Sunglasses – LCR rider – who won the Portuguese GP two weeks ago and had taken provisional pole on Friday – clocked a fastest lap of 2´06.196, knocking more than three seconds off his first qualifying time and beating Dani Pedroda, second fastest, to pole position by 0.018 of a second.

Italian Team Scot rider Andrea Divizioso finished third fasted behind Pedrosa with a time of 2´06.473 and will occupy the third grid position tomorrow.

Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Honda) will start off tomorrow in fourth position ahead of Japanese Telefonica Movistar Honda rider Hiroshi Aoyama, who will head-up the second row.

Spain's Hector Barbera will start off in sixth ahead of French Aprilia Aspar rider Randy de Puniet. Sebastian Porto (Aprilia Aspar), Simon Corsi (MS Aprilia Italia Corse) Yuki Takahashi will complete the top ten respectively.
