Casey Stoner wins at Shanghai to take the double

Casey Stoner (Carrera Sunglasses – LCR) has won the Grand Prix of China at Shanghai after a closely fought battle with Italian Team Scot rider Andrea Dovizioso.

Starting in pole position, Stoner initially had a bad start but recovered almost immediately to lead the race from start to finish. "I was ready for a dry race but in the warm up session this morning I did not get the right feeling in the wet," said the Austrilain. "The team made a great work to set up the bike and my Aprilia was very fast. Unfortunately my start was bad but I was able to catch the front group in the second lap. "I decided to keep the lead of the race cause I had a good pace. Dovizioso was behind me for the whole race and knew that he could pass me in the last lap. But in the final laps it started to rain again but I knew I could keep the pace avoiding any mistake. I am very happy for this victory and want to thank the team." Stoner was followed all the way by Dovizioso, who didn't let up on the pressure and eventually took second place, making him the overall leader of the Championship on 53 points, three ahead of Stoner.

Third place was taken by Japanese rider (Telefonica Movistar Honda) Hiroshi Aoyama. He inherited the position from Randy de Puniet on the 16th after the Frenchman had mechanical problems, causing him to lose ground and eventually finish in 18th.

Alex de Angelis (MS Aprilia Italia Corse) took fourth ahead Sebastian Porto (Aprilia Aspar) in fifth and Dani Pedrosa in sixth..

Hector Barbera ((Fortuna Honda) took seventh ahead of Simon Corsi (MS Aprilia Italian Corse) in eighth. Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Honda) and Yuki Takahashi (Team Scot) completed the top ten respectively.
